Abia State Government has encouraged Instructors within the state to continue classes, by March 1, 2021, saying that it had paid one Million Naira between December 2020 and January 2021, to settle overdue debts of the teachers in the state.
Educators (Teachers) in the Abia State had gone on an inconclusive strike to press domesy the request of the installation of back payments of compensations owned them.
Cheif John Okiyi Kalu, who is the Commissioner for information, revealed that the public authority (government) is committed to the installment of the remarkable overdue debts of pay rates and asked the instructors to respond the motion by continuing works on March 1.
Okiyi Kalu further clarified that the public authority is additionally set to pay the TSS (Teachers Salary Structure), before the week's end.
In his words; “The Abia State Government wishes to appreciate teachers in the State for their understanding in the processes we have initiated to clear the outstanding emoluments being owed them.
“To demonstrate our commitment to this cause, the government has already paid a total of N1.1bn in salary arrears to the teachers between December 2020 and now, and is set to further pay their TSS within the week.
“Based on the foregoing, we call on the teachers to reciprocate government gestures, and show a further sense of patriotism by returning to classes on March 1, 2021.”
The Commissioner included that the government is decided to improve the welfare of instructors within the state as concurred with them.
