The PUNCH reported that the lecturers had in March 2021 suspended an earlier strike which paralysed activities at the university for almost two months.
It was gathered that the decision by the lecturers to begin a fresh strike was taken during their meeting held on Monday.
The chairman of ASUU in the institution, Dr Monday Zitta, described the strike as “indefinite, total and comprehensive.”
Reading the resolution of union, the ASUU chairman accused the state government of failing to address security concerns and failing to locate a functional police outpost in the university host community.
He also accused the government of not settling the national minimum wage arrears within the first quarter of 2021among others.
He added that the government had also failed to “make complete payment of mainstreamed Earned Academic Allowances for 2019/2020 which was indiscriminately paid but with a lot of members short-changed, commence the construction of staff quarters within the first quarter of 2021, complete the perimeter fencing of the institution among other issues as contained in the MoA, allow for the election of Deans and HODs in the faculties and departments.”
The chairman stressed that his members had endured so much from the government and vowed that no academic activity of the institution will take place until government meets their demands.
