INTERVIEW: MY EXPERIENCE IN THE HANDS OF KIDNAPPERS -IDRIS MUBARAK

Mubarak Idris, A 200l student of mathematics department, federal university Dutse, Jigawa state spent five Days in the captivity of kidnappers in a forest in Kaduna state, with two other students but their profile has not been disclosed. with his friend Muhydeen Sulyman, a 300l student, department of political science same institution.in this interview with Idris Mubarak after his release, Mr Mubarak tells A-MEDIA UPDATE how he was kidnapped and how he was freed after paying the ransom...


Excerpts:

Q: how were you kidnapped?

Mr Mubarak: I was kidnapped by kidnappers on my way back to Kwara state due to the two months Strike declared by ASUU at Kaduna state with my friend, and two other students whose profile has not been disclosed yet. They acted like corps members when we got to a check point,, the driver opened the door and he was hit by one of them with the gun he was holding. They instructed us to come down from the bus, we were asked to kneel down, they tore our clothes from behind, and we were blindfolded with it.

Q: Where did they take you to?

Mr Mubarak: i can say we drove for almost two hours after leaving the place we were kidnapped, we finally reached the top of a hill then we were asked to stay...after some minutes they brought motorcycles, we ride for more than an hour....until we reached a forest.

Q: Are they young men or old

Mr Mubarak: No, very young most of them are teenagers the oldest among them shouldn't be more than 33 years old.

Q: How did they get across to your family?

Mr Mubarak: they asked for my phone but I told them I left it at my hostel, I was asked to call a family...at first I wasn't ready to speak with them but when the punishment was too much, I had no choice, I called my dad with a mobile phone given to me by one of them, I explained the situation to my dad, my Dad exclaimed, he collected the phone and he ended the call immediately.

Q: how many days did you spend with them?

Mr Mubarak: I spent five days with them.

Q: in the days you spent, what were you given to eat.

Mr Mubarak: unclean water and cassava flakes (garri) served with salt.

Q: were you beaten by them

Mr Mubarak: yes they do beat us round every morning.

Q: what other things did you noticed

Mr Mubarak: we met few people there, some said they have spent more than five days with them and the bags of cassava flakes were three.

Q: were you allowed to pray?

Mr Mubarak: No

Q: How much was the ransom?

Mr Mubarak: they requested for 20 million naira me and my friend 10 million naira each.

Who took the money to them?

Mr Mubarak: I Don't want to disclose the details to anyone.
