LAUTECH ASUU Seeks Makinde’s Intervention Over Seven Years Unpaid Earned Academic Allowance

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso, Oyo State chapter is poised for a showdown with the management of the institution over the nonpayment of seven years of arrears of earned academic allowances to its members, and, thereby, called for the timely intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde before the situation snowballs into major labour crisis.

The union in a statement jointly signed by Professor Biodun Olaniran and Toyin Abegunrin, Chairman and Secretary submitted that the union has lost confidence in the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mojeed Olaide Liasu and the Chairman of the Governing Council. Professor Deji Omole.

The statement read: “It is rather unfortunate that the 2016 and 2017 avoidable crisis started because the then administration refused to address arrears of EAA.

“Apparently not learning from history, the present university administration and council are now toeing the same path.

“Our Union cooperated with the administration to realize the debt from the students with the understanding that our EAA and promotion arrears will be settled knowing full well that at least one-third of it could be paid.

“However, as against our understanding, the University administration went ahead to appropriate the realized money on acclaimed capital projects and none of the two years was attended to.

“It is on this premise that we are calling on the visitor to the University, His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde, that the union has lost confidence in the University administration led by Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor M.O. Liasu and Professor Ayodeji Omole led Governing Council.”
