The council called on the FG to take necessary steps towards re-opening universities in the country, so that students will be fully engaged thereby reducing the threats to national security.
The group also said it is disheartening that although women make up half of the population, issues concerning them are still not being made a priority.
National President of the council, Hajiya Lami Lau, said in politics, men get the upper hand because they have the money unlike women.
The National President stated this in Abuja, at a press briefing on the International Day of the African Child and first ever Women-in-National Service Week
She added that women might not have the money but they possess the number and will make it count in the electioneering season.
Lau said, “We are calling on the Federal Government and the ASUU to please re-open our universities, so that our children will be fully engaged. Incessant crises in our educational institutions are a big threat to national security. Children’s continuous stay at home is worrisome to us mothers. It makes them idle, redundant and therefore vulnerable to all forms of violence and negative tendencies.
She added, “Women are half of the population, we have supported them all this while, we might not have the money but we have the numbers.
“We have always supported them but when we submitted five bills to the National Assembly, the same people we call our husbands, brothers and sons. We share same house and bed with threw them all out. We may not have the money but we have the numbers and you will hear from us in 2023.”
