...as Dept launches book to celebrate Egbewole's 25 years in teaching
As Nigeria prepares for the February 25th presidential and National Assembly elections, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is'haq Oloyede, CON, has stressed the need for all Nigerians to maintain law and order for the peace, security and development of the country.
Prof. Oloyede made the call at the official presentation of a book, “Efficiency in Jurisprudence and Constitutional Development in Africa” in honour of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, held at the University Auditorium.
The event, organised by the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, was put together to celebrate Professor Egbewole's 25 years of teaching Jurisprudence and International Law.
Declaring the conference open, Prof. Oloyede, who was the Chairman of the occasion, called on Nigerians to ensure that they perform their civic duties on election days as part of their contributions to the “sustainability of our fragile constitutional democracy”.
In his speech, titled “Order is Heaven's First Law”, Prof. Oloyede, who is also a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, said, “As we are approaching the February 25 elections, therefore, let us be dutiful in discharging our civic responsibility of voting and let us be law-abiding in the way and manner we conduct ourselves. We owe ourselves and the future generation a responsibility of participating in making Nigeria a better place for us through the choice of good leaders”.
The JAMB Registrar said, “As order is heaven's first law, Nigerians should always maintain decorum in this campaign season. It is the same sense of order and decorum that should underline their conduct in the forthcoming general elections. The public space is toxic with the putrid smell of destructive politicking by some of our political gladiators and it only requires being law-abiding to put the public space in order”.
