Kwasu Names Senate Building after Late VC Mustapha Akanbi as SU Holds Leadership Summit, Empowerment Program
In a heartfelt tribute to the late Vice-Chancellor Prof Mustapha Akanbi, the Kwara State University (Kwasu) has named its Proposed Senate Building after the esteemed academician.
This announcement was made by the Acting Vice Chancellors, Prof Lukman during the University’s Students Union (SU) Leadership Summit and Empowerment Program, which was held yesterday at the University Convocation Arena
The event was attended by students, faculty members, and dignitaries from the academia and government sectors. Among the notable guests was Professor Jeleel Ojuade, a renowned scholar and close associate of the late VC Mustapha Akanbi. In his Lecture, Professor Ojuade reminisced about the life and achievements of the late Vice-Chancellor. He highlighted the immense contributions made by Akanbi to the development of Kwasu and urged the university to continue honoring his memory.
“Late VC Mustapha Akanbi was a visionary leader and an inspiration to us all. His commitment to education and his passion for excellence left an indelible mark on Kwasu,” Professor Ojuade remarked. “By naming the Senate Building after him, the university is ensuring that his legacy lives on and serves as a constant reminder of the values he held dear.”
The SU Leadership Summit and Empowerment Program also featured a series of remarks by closed associate of the late Vice Chancellors. Prominent speakers from various fields shared their insights and experiences, providing valuable guidance to the young minds in attendance about the good life of the Late VC Mustapha Akanbi
Furthermore, the Students Union organized an empowerment program for their fellow students. The SU recognized the need for practical skills and provided students with working tools in various fields. Dryers, freezers, catering tools, barbing tools, engineering tools, shoe-making equipment, and sewing machines were distributed among the students, enabling them to acquire vocational skills that can potentially serve as a means of livelihood.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye commended the Students Union for their initiatives and expressed the government’s support. “The Kwara State Government is proud of the Students Union for their efforts in promoting leadership development and empowering their fellow students,” he stated. “We encourage all students to emulate the good legacy of the late VC Mustapha Akanbi and use their education and skills to contribute positively to society.”
The SU Leadership Summit and Empowerment Program concluded with a pledge from the students to honor the memory of the late VC Mustapha Akanbi by upholding the values of excellence, leadership, and service to humanity.
