UNILORIN SU SENATE COUNCIL SETS TO HONOUR TURAKI OF ILORIN, ANNOUNCES FOURTH EDITION OF STUDENTS’ PARLIAMENTARY SUMMIT

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Students’ Union Senate Council, 2021/2022 academic session has announced the fourth edition of the Students’ Parliamentary Summit, which is themed: Legislation and Its peculiarities (role of a legislator in the 21st century) in honor of Senator Saliu Mustapha, The TURAKI of Ilorin, the Senator Representing Kwara Central Senatorial District.

Students’ Parliamentary Summit (SPS) is a program aimed at gathering students of the better by far university, student legislators, individuals, organizations, groups, and associations for discourse and more specifically how the oversight powers of the legislative arm of the government can be leveraged to speed up national development.
It is an event fashioned out by the Students’ Union Senate Council, which is targeted at bringing together the students of the better by far community to share, discuss, brainstorm, and seek out ways to make ourselves, institution, society, and our country a much better place for all.

The event also hopes to serve as an avenue where reputable leaders are celebrated, honored, and awarded for their impact and influence in society.  

The 2021/2022 SPS 4.0, THE PLENARY, Theme: Legislation and Its peculiarities (role of a legislator in the 21st century) will hold at the university auditorium on Wednesday, July 26th, 2022.

In previous years, there have been notable and highly revered personalities honouring the Campus for the Students' Parliamentary Summit. last year, the Distinguished Senator Rafiu Ibrahim and Rt. Hon. Raherm Tunji Ajuloopin in their full regalia and entourage, graced the SPS 3.0 with their enigmatic presence.

This year, under the leadership of Senator Fasasi Ahmed Olalekan, the Senate Council is bringing the ever-charismatic and distinguished honour all the way from Abuja. He is brilliant, a persona of excellence, he is diligent, an embodiment of grace and virtue, he is the Senator Representing Kwara Central, The Turaki of Ilorin, and the distinguished Senator, mallam Saliu Mustapha.

What does it mean to have the Turaki attending this year's SPS? The over 50000 populace of Unilorin would be chanced to be in his presence. And for the first time in history. He'd be addressing the lucky few that'd be seated in the University Auditorium on the 26th, of July, 2023 and learn from his wealth of experience.

Senator Saliu Mustapha is a respected figure of resilience and hard work, whose sojourn to the limelight is not without roots. From his alliance with President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 and 2019 elections, to his titleship as the Deputy National Chairman of the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC). Senator Saliu Mustapha served as the publicity secretary of Dr Ezekiel Ezeogu’s Progressive Liberation Movement (PLM) and was a member of Fawehinmi's Progressive Action Congress.

Senator Saliu Mustapha's turbaning was a colourful event as all and sundry gathered to celebrate the fourth Turaki of the Ilorin Emirates. His emergence as the Senator representing Kwara Central came as no surprise to the indigenes as his dedication and generosity paved his path to the national assembly.

Saliu Mustapha is exceptional, his achievements and noble personality are a source of inspiration to many Unilorites, hence the need for the Council to seek out his presence at the SPS. Along with other noteworthy and eminent dignitaries that will be gracing the event, the SPS 4.0 promises to the Educating, Enlightening, Inspiring and history-making. Be there!
