Chief Medical Director, Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, FUTO Dr. Kingsley Achigbu has said the recent conversion of the Federal Medical Centre Owerri, to a university teaching hospital, “is a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment towards enhancing health and education sectors in the country.”
Achigbu said that the new status of the health institution would contribute in boosting the economy and general well-being of Imo citizens and Nigerians at large.
The CMD, stated this weekend, while receiving members of Imo Newspapers Editors/Columnists Forum, who were in his office on a courtesy visit.
Achigbu noted that the achievements recorded in the institution over the years were chiefly because of the support from the government and commitment of the staff and management of the health institution.
“Also, the achievements you see today here resulted from the unwavering focus on core values and goals of the institutions which are hinged on transparency, research development and our zero tolerance to double standard and lazy attitude to work.” he added.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Comrade Chinedu Opara said that the visit was to honoured the CMD, particularly for his outstanding performance and contributions that ensured the facelift of the institution.
Opara who noted that the institution has been experiencing relative peace and harmonious relationship between the staff and various labour unions of the institution since the assumption of Dr Achigbu as the head, added, “it is a testimony of your good managerial skill and commitment to effective service delivery.
Also, the Secretary of the group, Comrade Ifeanyi Onyekachi who called on the management of the FUTHO remain committed to effective service delivery, commended the CMD and his team for improving the image of the institution.
