SOKOTO STATE APPROVES ₦200,000 MONTHLY ALLOWANCE FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS

The Sokoto State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has approved a monthly maintenance allowance of ₦200,000 for secondary school principals across the state.

The announcement was made during the Sokoto State 2025 Citizens Budget Discussion held on Monday, where stakeholders deliberated on key issues affecting the state.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Chief Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, stated, "The governor, in his usual manner, has approved ₦200,000 for each school principal in the 23 local government areas. The disbursement will commence by January 2025."

This decision followed an appeal by former Deputy Governor Chiso Abdullahi, who emphasized the need for financial support to address maintenance challenges. The allowance will enable principals to undertake minor repairs requiring the services of carpenters, masons, and other artisans, thereby ensuring the proper upkeep of school facilities.

In addition to this, Governor Aliyu directed the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Dadi Adare, to review the allowances of traditional rulers to align them with current economic realities. The directive came after an appeal by the District Head of Kilgori, Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar. Kilgori called for an increase in traditional rulers' allowances to reflect the prevailing economic situation.
