As students are preparing for the 2025/2026 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board [JAMB] registration and the examination for prospective UTME candidates, it's essential to be informed of certain things that are important for successful registration.
Students should be well aware that getting admission into various desired institutions and programs begins right from the JAMB registration. This means that the admission process commences from the registration of UTME to the registration of Post-UTME of your desired institution, and eventually get admission and later proceed to NYSC after completion of your programme. However, a single mistake can prevent you from getting admission or completing your desired course. And if you're lucky enough to get admission and your desired choices, your early mistake can give you a problem later in clearance in your school or when it's time for NYSC. All said above are why you need to be extra careful with your admission process.
Now, let's talk about JAMB registration, the stages, and the procedures involved. Make sure to follow these guidelines carefully to ensure a smooth registration process.
Prior to the commencement of JAMB registration, the board will conduct an accreditation exercise to check the suitability of each CBT centre for the conduct of its examination. After thorough exercise, the board will notify the public of the accredited CBT centre for the year UTME examination. In the 2024 UTME across the nation, only 747 CBTs were accredited.
Moving forward, the Selling of E-pins for UTME registration, which commences, usually begins a week before the commencement of UTME registration and ends days after the closing date of the UTME registration. There are 3 types of E-pins.
1. E-pin for UTME without Mock. This was sold at 6200 for 2024 UTME registration. Expect an update on the 2025 registration soon.
2. E-pin for UTME with Mock. This was sold at 7,700 for 2024 UTME registration. Expect an update on the 2025 registration soon.
3. E-pin for Direct Entry (DE). This was sold at 6200 for 2024 UTME registration. Expect an update on the 2025 registration soon.
This means you're to know and be specific about the types of E-PIN needed at the point of purchase because there won't be a refund.
It's important to state clearly that UTME registration begins and ends before the direct entry registration begins. The registration period for both of them will be announced by the board soon. This means you'll be expecting the following dates:
1. Period for UTME registration.
2. Date for vending Epins for UTME registration
3. Stipulated period for sales of direct entry application forms and vending of Epins for DE registration.
Candidates can choose from various modes of payment or e-PIN purchases, including banks, mobile money operators, and financial switches.

As said in a paragraph above, the admission process begins with registration. Candidates are expected to check the requirements for their desired courses. You're to visit https://www.jamb.gov.ng, then select Quicklinks and then IBASS to access the JAMB e-syllabus or download the app named "JAMB IBASS" on the Play Store.
Upon being sure of the subject combinations for your choice, the next thing that should come to your mind as you await the commencement of the registration is the step by step of creating a profile. To be able to register for JAMB, it has to be as UTME or Direct Entry.
UTME is for gaining admission into 100l of your desired Institutions. You must have at least credit in 5 relevant subjects to your chosen course including English and mathematics. You must have at least credits on 5 relevant subjects too and in addition, must have at least two prescribed subjects for each programme (proposed course of study) in the Advanced level. Other acceptable qualifications instead of A’LEVELs are: University Degree, University Diploma/NFLD, ND/NID, HND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB, NABTEB-ANBC, NABTEB-ANTC, NABTEB-GCE-A’LEVEL (2015-2021), Cambridge A’level, International Baccalaureate (foreign certificates only), National Registered Nurse/National Registered Midwife (NRN/NRM).
Now, you're sure of what you want to register as be it as a UTME candidate or a Direct Entry candidate, and you meet the requirements for whichever you wish to go for. Again, note that Registration can only be done at JAMB-approved centres nationwide. However, you will need to create your profile and get your pin ready when the sales commences.
For Creating Your Profile, it's crucial to note that every candidate must use a unique mobile phone number (SIM) for registration. This number can only be used by one candidate. It serves as your unique identification for all current and future transactions with the board. Before creating a profile, it is important to verify that your details match with the NIMC data because no changes will be allowed for name and date of birth after profile creation, but any updates made by NIMC will be reflected in JAMB records.
To begin the process after the verification, send your National Identification Number (NIN) via SMS from your personal GSM number to either 55019 or 66019. Format your text as follows: "NIN [your 11-digit NIN]" (e.g., NIN 12345678901). Ensure there is a space between "NIN" and your NIN. The mobile number must not have been used by anyone else for UTME/DE registration in the past. Avoid using post-paid or special bundle lines unless they are pre-loaded with credit.
After the creation, you will receive a 10-character profile code on the same mobile number. Candidates who had registered for jamb in the previous year(s) will receive the same profile code as before. This mobile number will be tied to your name and used for all communication regarding your applications, examinations, and admissions. Remember this number, as it is crucial for future interactions with the board. It will be used to receive messages from the board. By obtaining UTME application documents, you agree to receive text messages from JAMB (55019 or 66019), even if "Do Not Disturb" (DND) is activated.
Meanwhile, if you have lost your profile code, you can retrieve it. To retrieve a lost Profile Code, send the word [RESEND] from the registered mobile number to 55019 or 66019 as a text message. Also, if you forget your profile password after getting one at the registration, you can reset it by sending “PASSWORD [your email address]” from the same mobile number to 55019 or 66019.
Furthermore, to complete the registration, present your profile code and the e-PIN generated at any JAMB-accredited CBT Center. You can not finish the application until your biometrics (all ten fingers) are captured, and your photograph is taken physically. Do not submit a passport photograph. Successful fingerprint and photo capture will allow you to print your e-registration slip. You must use at least two fingers for the fingerprint process. Your biometric verification will be necessary for any further transactions with your profile.

With the above being said, the following are important to take note:
1. If you're registering for JAMB for the first time, you'll need your sim and not just sim but the one linked to your NIN. This means you must have registered for NIN before the registration time.
2. You must be sure your name, number, date of birth, and other details on the NIN are correct and tally with other documents. If not, visit the NIMC office to correct whatever needs to be corrected before the time for JAMB registration.
3. If everything is correct and your number is okay, you can then create your profile for Jamb using your NIN. Your name, date of birth, etc. will be generated directly from NIN and can't be changed on jamb. So make sure they are all correct.
4. If you've registered in past years, you'll use your previous year's profile code, too, as it can only be created once. If you lost the sim used for the registration, then retrieve it. If it's not yours, collect or borrow it again as you can't change the number.
5. Be sure to choose the correct institution, course, and subject combinations.
